Judi brings to her clients thirty years of history as an embedded participant-observer of the not-for-profit sector, its people, passions and peculiarities. And the larger landscape of policy and relationships between the sector and its stakeholders, and among the sector organizations themselves.
She has direct experience as a program participant, community activist, volunteer leader, program developer, board member, donor, change agent and consultant. Each role gives a different viewpoint, and it is this ability to step from one to the other - knowing the strengths and foibles of each - that is her strength.
Specialized Knowledge
Arts Sector:
Twelve years spent in the cultural sector, at the Greater Vancouver Alliance for Arts and Culture, developing programs to address the career resiliency challenges of artists, has rooted her knowledge of sectoral issues solidly in the reality of their working lives. Throughout the development and evolution of the S.E.A.R.C.H. Program from 1996 to 2007, nearly 2000 creative and unconventional individuals shared their stories and built a new framework for managing a life in the arts while generating sustainable income.
Judi's knowledge of the broader landscape of the sector, the economy and the policy architecture affecting employment, self-employment and small business, help her workshop participants frame their career self-management plans and actions within a larger context.
Judi maintains an organizational development consultancy practice and a wide-ranging network. In March 2008 she presented a paper at the International Forum on the Creative Economy, and sits as an advocate for the cultural sector on the BC Social Economy Roundtable and the Steering Committee of the Voluntary Organizations Consortium of BC.
Writer's Bio
"Judi is Vancouver born and raised, which could explain her lack of understanding about hockey. She specializes in asking stupid questions while looking innocent, and rarely acts her age. When not at the rink, she devises unique ways to assist artists to create sustainable income, thereby creating income for herself. In her spare time, she raises dust bunnies."
